I was originally looking at the Canon 70-200 f/4L IS which is a great lens. It was suggested that I try the Tamron 70-300 F/4-5.6 VC and I was dubious but I went down to the store and gave it a try. I was blown away!
This is fast, very sharp and has excellent contrast and it surprised me as I normally would never look at a lens without a constant aperture. The Vibration Compensation is far more advanced than anything I have seen on a canon, it really works and is like a whisper sound when it activates and locks in the image. Surprisingly this has excellent bokeh, which was a bonus and very unexpected given the aperture widest aperture, but hey there it is and it is very creamy at the center with a little aberration around the edges but on my 7D it is hardly noticeable.
My only complaint is a small amount of creep in the zoom when the camera is pointed down or up and no way to lock the zoom.
For the price just get one and shoot it, you will not be unhappy.
Pros: Great for Video, Fast Auto-Focus, Beautiful Colors/Contrast, Great Bokeh, Good Low-Light Performance
