The D7000 is an upgrade from my D90. For the difference in price, there is no comparison. Video performance is so much better, high ISO and low noise are a huge improvement, the camera is much faster and quieter (shutter sound), there are many added features such as true mirror lock up that are a great addition. I am thrilled.

When I think of the D7000 I think of a great camera for most people. And for the price? Well its almost unbeatable. But if you aspire to be a professional, you may want to re-think this as your camera of choice. The ISO performance is rather bad. And that is important for ANY low light situation. In more simplistic for the novice camera man, most indoors situations are considered low light. Want a photo of the kids in the room? Well your quality is going to fall off. Besides ISO performance being my main complaint, I have also had (few) problems with the auto focus, its still better than most Cannons I have worked with but I feel it important to be honest. For best results (depending on what your shooting) pair this up with a 50 1.8 lens (around 150.00) and a good flash and you have a amazing beginners set up, that will render tack sharp images.
Pros: Excellent Image Quality, Simple Controls/Menu, Great Battery Life, Quick Start-up Time, Easy Computer Connectivity, Beautiful Colors/Contrast, price
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance

The Nikon D7000 is a well-built, beautifully functional digital SLR. When I first picked it up, I felt the care and craftsmanship that went into its manufacturing. As a professional photographer, it is in my bag along with my D3.
If this camera is indeed a prelude to the D400, I can't wait to see that extension into the pro market.
Simply stated to all you reading this, buy the D7000 and enjoy!
Pros: Excellent Image Quality, Simple Controls/Menu, Sharp Tone/Color, Great Battery Life, Quick Start-up Time, Easy Computer Connectivity, Beautiful Colors/Contrast, Good Low-Light Performance

Cons - IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ - as of this date, Photoshop, DxO and Lightroom have not released a patch to read RAW files on the D7000. Photoshop's current RAW patch, 6.2, doesn't work. Version 6.3 is in beta test mode and I was told by Photoshop that the expected release date is not until sometime mid-December. So, you may not be able to process any RAW files until then - unless you use Nikon's software - which frankly is awful.
Pros - just about everything;
1. Fast focus, quiet performance
2. High ISO is great
3. Excellent build and weather sealing
4. GREAT price
5. Video is excellent, a vast improvement over the D90
6. True mirror lock up
7. Fast 6 fps
8. Menus and controls are easy and intuitive to any curent Nikon user, similar to the D90
9. The image quality is noticably better than my D90 - super photos
Pros: Excellent Image Quality, Great for Video, Simple Controls/Menu, Sharp Tone/Color, Quick Start-up Time, Beautiful Colors/Contrast, Good Low-Light Performance
