The convenient rear control panel of each Genesis puts their full range of flash controls at your finger tips. Each model features digital, variable flash-output controls that allow you to adjust power levels over a 5-stop range. You can switch from full to proportional modeling with the press of a button. A built-in optical photo cell provides wireless flash syncronization and it is adjustable to increase or decrease sensitivity, depending upon the environment you are working in. (The top position is marked as “Full”). If the light is already on, cycle through the settings until you get back to the Full setting. When the light first comes on, the power setting will be flashing on the digital readout. While the display is still flashing, change the unit power setting with the up and down buttons. This will allow you to change the modeling lamp output between minimum (display will read 10) to full (display will read 60) but will not affect the flash tube setting. Once you release the power selector button, the display will revert to your current flash tube setting. In the proportional setting, the modeling lamp output changes relative to the power set for the flashtube. As you adjust the flash tube power, the modeling lamp power will automatically increase or decrease in proportion to flash tube power.

I bought this kit to replace my Calumet PS1250 and (2)mini-head kit that lasted me for over 20 years. The quality is much more than I expected for the price. The stands and umbrellas are really sturdy. The flash heads themselves are well built and have many features that you usually won't find in the lower price range. I like that you don't have to have a heavy power pack and cables running to the lights. The only complaint I would have so far is the recycle time is a little slower than my previous set-up but it isn't often I would be shooting that fast anyway.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Lightweight/Portable, Many Useful Features, Superior Build Quality, Sturdy/Stable

I've been thinking about an in-house studio set up for a long time for pictures of kids and grand children and this was just the ticket. After doing a lot of research and checking with a friend who has this set, I decided to go for it. I am so pleased. The features and build quality for the price can not be beat. BTW, forget the syn cord. Mine kept falling out of my Nikon D-300. Invest in the dual trigger set and you'll not only eliminate a cord, you'll LOVE the results. The trigger also doubles as a remote trigger too. One reviewer mentioned a con was synching no more than 1/125. I shoot at 1/250 shutter with terrific results. Also, Calumet says recycle time is between 1-3 seconds. My puppies recycle at 1 second always. If you have a Nikon D-300 like I do, be sure to lock in the ISO at 200. If you let it float (i.e. auto), it goes to 3200 for some unknown reason and naturally, blows out the picture. If you buy this set, you'll be so happy you did. My in-studio shots look fantastic. I just wish I had made the purchase a long time ago.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Lightweight/Portable, Many Useful Features, Superior Build Quality, Fast, Sturdy/Stable, Quiet, Easy Setup, Solid Operation, Ergonomic/Comfortable, Good for Beginners
Cons: syn cord for nikon d-300 falls out

Pro or not, no other vender has anything close to this quality for this price. Depending on your individual needs this kit alone or with add ons of your choice is a great foundation for a starter studio set up. Portability is another advantage of this kit.

I've been using this kit for event photography and never let me down except slow recyle time. Built like a tank one of the strobe accidentally tripped by a client and fell down frontwards, a little dent on the reflector and still has juice. I added another 400ws to complete my set. Thank Calumet..

I've been an assistant/photographer for a long time and when I needed some lights I just called in favors or traded labor for usage....but that gets old. I have used about every light out there. I decided on the 200ws Genesis package because I like to shoot wide open most of the time. I have used these lights on tabletop products and have shot at f 22. So there is plenty of power. I was most impressed with the quality of construction and features. They are well built for the money.
Pros: Easy to Use, Lightweight/Portable, Many Useful Features, Good for Experts, Superior Build Quality, Fast, Quiet, Easy Setup, Solid Operation, Good for Beginners
Cons: slow flash duration only able to sync to 125th sec
